UCD were well represented in Dublin’s historic Under 21 Hurling Championship victory over Wexford on a score line of 1.18 to O.11.

This was the first occasion that Dublin won back to back titles and in a sun drenched Wexford Park in front of a crowd of 15,000 people, this fine Dublin truly team outshone the strawberry pickers.

Leading by a mere 0-9 to 0-8 at the break, the Metropolitans took complete control after substitute Eamonn Dillon scored the only goal seven minutes into the second half. It was a highly impressive victory by the Dubs, who also landed the Leinster minor crown last Sunday week.

The team captain is law student and UCD GAA scholarship student Liam Rushe. Niall McMorrow and Rob O’Loughlin are also scholarship holders.

Other UCD students on the Dublin panel included Bill O’Carroll, Ciaran Brennan, Aodhan Cabby and Daire Plunkett.

Elite Athlete Academy student, Matt O’Hanlon and Willy Devereux were on the gallant Wexford team.
