Structured Elective - Spanish

What is this Structured Elective about?
A Structured Elective in Spanish will take your from beginners’ or Leaving Certificate level Spanish to C1 CEFR equivalent (upper intermediate level) upon receipt of a B grade or higher in language modules up to Level 3. The language modules focus on honing your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in Spanish through a variety of activities including grammar exercises, oral presentations, creative writing and video comprehension exercises, which also shed light on a range of issues in contemporary Spain and Latin America. Furthermore, you will be able to choose from a variety of content modules on poetry, prose, cinema and visual culture from across the Spanish-speaking world.

Why should I take this Structured Elective? / How would this Structured Elective benefit me?
Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world and as a Romance language it is particularly amenable to beginners with a background in French or Italian. The wide range of modules allows you to focus on particular areas of interest such as visual culture, poetry or Latin American literature, or you may choose a varied combination. In addition to language skills, a Structured Elective in Spanish will give you a more global perspective on world affairs and cultural production, making for well rounded graduates with both practical skills and global knowledge. The school also offers Erasmus exchanges to Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Uruguay.
