Note: Graduate Taught students who have failed a module in the Summer Term 2016/17 can repeat the module the next time it is offered or you may be offered a resit opportunity. Please check with your School or Module Coordinator.

How do I register to a repeat/resit in Semester 1 (2017/18) if it is being offered? How much do repeat/resit modules cost?
Currently it costs €230 per repeat/resit module.

How do I drop a repeat/resit module? What happens if a resit is not available to me?
If a resit is not offered, your options are to re-attend (repeat) the module or substitute if permitted by your programme. If you require advice, you may contact your School/Programme Office. Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Science students should go directly to the School Office for advice.

How can I check if a module I failed in Semester 2 (2016/17) has a resit or not?
Use the Course Search to find your module and look at the 'What happens if I fail?' section of the module description.

What will my resit involve in Semester 1 (2017/18)?
Use the Course Search to find your module and look at the 'What happens if I fail?' section of the module description. If you need further information, go directly to your School Office for advice.

I have an E grade from 2014/15 or earlier, how do I check if the module is eligible for compensation?
To check if your module is passable by compensation use the Course Search to find your module and then check the 'What happens if I fail?' section of the module description.

If you are registered to a resit/repeat in the 2016/17 academic year and keep it you will be charged for it, even if you subsequently compensate the original failed module.

Please note: the University approved changes to compensation which came into effect on a phased basis from 2013/14.

Can I repeat a module in Semester 2 (2017/18) instead of doing the resit in Semester 1 (2017/18)?
Yes, if that module is being taught in Semester 2 (2017/18).

Remember that if you decide not to take a resit this is your decision and you are responsible for ensuring that your registration meets your programme requirements.

If I don't take repeats or resits, what are the academic consequences?
If you don't take a resit/repeat you must have an academic plan to make sure your outstanding module credits in your programme of study are in place. It is the responsibility of a student to make sure that they comply with their programme requirements and that their registration is complete and accurate.

Can I substitute an elective module that I failed in Semester 2 (2016/17)?
Yes you can substitute an elective module that you failed in Semester 2 (2016/17) Please note that all first attempts at a module incur fees or count towards your HEA Free Tuition entitlement.

Can I substitute an option module that I failed in Semester 2 (2016/17)?
Yes you can. If you wish to substitute a failed option and are registered to the resit/repeat, drop this on the Repeats/Subs/Transf Tab.

If you are an Undergraduate student, you should visit your Programme Office to have the substitute option manually added to your record.

Please note that all first attempts at a module incur fees or count towards your HEA Free Tuition entitlement.

Can I substitute a core module that I failed?
Generally, failed core modules may not be substituted.

General Regulations 5.11: Where a student does not pass a core module, they must repeat the module or resit the assessment or take another module which, according to the Programme Board, replaces, supersedes or substitutes for that module.

I require academic advice in relation to a specific module, who do I contact?
Contact the relevant Module Coordinator.

When can I see my Semester 2 results online?
Final results will be released on Thursday, 29 June 2017 (by 2.00pm). If there is any change from your provisional results please make sure to act immediately on any possible registration related consequences such as resits/repeat modules.

What is the current UCD Policy on resits and repeats?
Sections 5.8 to 5.14 of the UCD General Regulations provide information about resits and repeats. Please refer to the User's Guide to General Regulations.

Where resits are not offered, your Programme will require you to repeat or substitute the module instead.
