The service is envisaged as an addition to the students' own family doctor or specialist medical services. It operates within resource constraints so certain service limitations apply. Students should continue to attend their own General Practitioner, especially if Dublin based. The Student Health Service regrets that due to resource constraints we are unable to see all students who request a same day appointment. We endeavour to see as many students as possible within available resources.
The staff of the Student Health Service provides a service within an ethos of respect, courtesy and confidentiality and aim at all times to operate to the highest professional standards. All consultations are treated in strict confidence. No information is given to others without permission.
We request that you book one of our urgent slots when you are acutely unwell, in pain or distressed and not for ongoing or routine problems. Urgent appointments are allocated on the same day only so please phone early in the morning (9am) if you are unwell. Please be aware that when you are seen at an urgent appointment the doctor can only deal with the urgent problem. You may be asked to make a separate appointment to deal with other problems. A list of alternative options is provided by the service when we are unable to facilitate you.
If students do not require an urgent appointment they can book an appointment in advance with the doctor for routine or ongoing problems. Please note that students may have to wait a week or two for routine appointments with the doctor.
Examples of routine appointments are: Medicals, electives, contraception, long-term/ ongoing prescriptions.
To book an appointment please drop by reception or phone us on 01 7163134. Please have your student number ready for the receptionist.
Preference for a male or a female doctor must be specified when you book the appointment. Certain consultations require specific doctors. Please see our list of sevices for more information.
If for some reason you are unable to attend your appointment please give at least 24 hours’ notice so that we can reallocate the slot.
Before attending an appointment please make sure all your contact details (phone number, local address) are correct and up to date on your SIS Web account.
On the day and time of your booked appointment please check in with a member of reception or use the self-check in touch screen located in the reception area.
