Academic Development/ Teaching Qualification Overview
Teaching Qualification Overview
UCD offers a suite of awards relating to teaching and learning in higher education, including revised versions of the Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning.
There is also the opportunity to gain new “Special Purpose Awards” which will require fewer than 30 credits but which will facilitate the acquisition of specific teaching skills.
The main focus of the new framework will remain the Graduate Diploma in University Teaching and Learning. The other awards will seek to achieve one or more of the following aims:
- Encouraging teachers to engage in structured and mentored professional development. Special purpose awards, for example, will allow teachers to develop very specific teaching skills.
- Helping to create and sustain a community of scholarly-teachers in the Irish third-level system. Providing vehicles for the exploration of improvements in teaching and learning and ensuring that curriculum reforms are evidence-based.
- Encouraging and supporting contributions to the relevant literature.
