Overview

UCD Teaching and Learning offers three accredited programmes in University Teaching and Learning. The programmes are designed to be flexible, research-informed and practice-based. A suite of modules will be offered in each academic session, facilitating faculty to choose in accordance with their interests and development needs:

1. The Certificate of Continuing Professional Development, University Teaching & Learning, is a single 7.5 ECTS module programme taking place over one semester. This programme is offered twice a year, once in September and once in January. Participants choose their start time depending on the module that is of interest to them.

2. The Professional Certificate in University Teaching and Learning, which carries a credit volume of 15 ECTS is our principal professional qualification aimed at UCD faculty. The Professional Certificate will be awarded to those candidates who successfully complete any two modules.

3. The Professional Diploma, University Teaching and Learning, which carries a credit volume of 30 ECTS may be undertaken by participants who have completed the Professional Certificate.

Two 7.5 credit modules, Becoming a Better University Teacher (UTL 40180) and Problem-based Learning (UTL40200) will be offered in semester one 2017/18.

Two 7.5 credit modules Assessing and Teaching for Learning in Higher Education (UTL40140) and Active Learning with Technology (UTL 40190) will be offered in semester two 2017/18.

The Professional Programmes in University Teaching and Learning are in-service programmes for those who are currently teaching in higher education (i.e. NQF level 7 or above). They equip participants with the knowledge and skills to provide effective high quality educational experiences for their students by using research-led and evidence -based approaches to address contemporary issues and challenges in higher education.
