Teaching and research are both central to the role of academic staff, and excellence in teaching and in creative and scholarly work go hand in hand. The NAIRTL National Awards Programme aims to acknowledge and reward academic staff who are successful in uniting these two roles. The awards are intended to raise the profile of teaching and learning through recognition and celebration of teachers who make an outstanding impact on the student learning experience.
Five awards of €5,000 each will be made in 2012 and nominations are invited from members of senior management in higher education institutions in relation to individuals or groups of staff members. All categories of staff (professor, senior lecturer, lecturer, assistant lecturer, full-time, part-time etc) are eligible for nomination and applicants should not self-nominate.
In 2009, Dr Amanda Gibney from the UCD School of Architecture, Landscape and Civil Engineering was honoured with a NAIRTL National Award for her innovative development of the Masters of Engineering programme (Structural Engineering with Architecture), combined with her impressive record as an leader of educational innovation in UCD.
The deadline for internal UCD nominations is Wednesday 14th March.
