Closing the Feedback Loop Guide Launched 31.05.12

One of the findings of research commissioned by Teaching & Learning in autumn 2011 is that less than 10% of UCD students (amongst whom the research was conducted) believe that changes are implemented as a result of their feedback on modules.  Many lecturers inform students how their feedback has been taken on board, however, use of an explicit model for closing the feedback loop can be a more effective means of communication.

Closing the feedback loop is the process of informing students how their comments from the Student Feedback on Modules survey have been used. This semester academic colleagues from four different schools volunteered to develop and test their own practical models for closing the feedback loop.  These models have been circulated to all academic staff in the Closing the Feedback Loop   guide.

It is hoped that more schools will now either adopt a model for closing the feedback loop if appropriate to their discipline or alternatively develop their own model for informing students how their feedback has been taken on board.  Research has shown the importance of this exercise in improving student engagement with the surveys and more generally.
