Personal Development Planning Colloquium 19.02.10

Our students face many challenges as they develop skills required for academic achievement, acquire and enhance skills needed for success in future employment and mature as individuals possessing the self-awareness required for effective career planning and lifelong learning. Personal Development Planning (PDP) is one system which may help us provide support and structure to students as they move through and beyond their academic career.

The Career Development Centre hosted its first colloquium for academic staff on Friday 19 February 2010 showcasing how Queen’s University, Belfast (one of the UK’s top 20 research intensive universities) introduced PDP to the academic curriculum, a development recognised as an example of best practice in Europe.

The guest speaker, Maria Lee is Head of Educational and Skills Development which comprises the Centre for Educational Development, Careers, Employability and Skills and the Learning Development Service. Prior to moving into university administration and management, Maria lectured in areas such as computer based education and work-related learning and has been a key individual in educational development at Queen’s for some years.
