Using Blackboard’s Virtual Classroom

What is the virtual classroom?

It is a space within Blackboard where one may engage with students virtually.

What does it do?

It provides a synchronous forum for discussing, sharing, reviewing, and collaborating with peers (and tutors/facilitators).

It offers the ability to bring in visiting experts without the need for travel or access to video conferencing equipment.

It can provide a complete archival record of all interactions within a given session, aiding review and reflection.

Where do I get access and or /support?

IT Services' virtual learning environment Blackboard provides the virtual classroom.

Alternative products include: Adobe Connect – visit http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatconnectpro/

How do I use it in my teaching?

To provide flexible access to a professional graduate cohort of learners.

To enable all learners a means to voice an opinion and contribute to discussions.

To provide virtual seminars, enabling learners to explore themes and concepts external to the main lecture content.
