National Digital Learning Repository

What is the NDLR?

The National Digital Learning Repository (NDLR) is a nationwide initiative that involves all of the universities and Institutes of Technology in creating, developing and providing access to teaching and learning resources across the breadth of disciplinary areas.  Supported both locally and nationally, the NDLR partners provide materials, guides, workshops and events to aid the academic community in the development of reusable learning resources (RLRs).

What is the NDLR Portal?

The NDLR portal site offers access to a wide array of information pertaining to development grants, active projects, communities of practice (COPs) and more. Users may sign up to a newsletter and avail of the private work-spaces (based in Mahara) to develop and strengthen their local and national practice communities and projects.

How do I access the Repository?

The National Digital Learning Repository (based in DSpace) is primarily an open access repository – users may search the contents and use the resources under the Creative Commons licencing. Some of the collections are only accessible to members of the Irish academic community and users are required to provide an authenticated institutional email to gain access, these materials may only be used for teaching and learning purposes in an Irish context (as per the NDLR Licence).

What does the UCD NDLR offer?

There are two key local NDLR schemes, these take the form of the:

1. UCD NDLR Learning Innovation Project Grants

2. Local initiatives which have led to the acquisition of a number of resource tools to aid in the development of RLRs, some of which are available to UCD staff:
    
   • 10 HP laptops pre-loaded with the Articulate suite of media development tools
   • 2 Canon Handycams (and tripods)
   • 1 Digital Camera (and underwater case)
   • 30 FLIP HD video cameras
