Floodlight League Week 2 Roundup[18.10.2009]
For all you tennis lovers, sorry for the delay in posting this news up. I'm not normally late with news and had heard there were some sleepless nights for you, worried for my well being. Right!?!?!?! I've convinced myself anyways of that anyways.
On to the results......I'm ashamed to say I neglected the ladies results last week but they're back with a bang this week. So they get priority in this report.
The ladies firsts, led by our very own Naoise Mac Eoin (Ladies Captain), were unfortunate losers in a 3-0 defeat. Its always tough for such a high class team where one little mistake could cost a point or even a match. So you can be sure that this match was much closer than the score suggests.
Happily, it was a different story for the seconds this week. They have a solid 2-1 victory. Katie O' Donnell, the teams captain and club secretary, battled back from illness the previous week and paired with Ciara Baragwaneth took the doubles match. Maeve Haran pitched in with a singles victory to take the team over the winning line.
Finally, the third and fourth teams were unlucky losers, both losing 2-1. It was a mixed bag of results for the ladies overall but you can be sure some positives will be taken from the performances of all the players.
The mens teams didn't fair too well this week, down to a variety of reasons from weakened teams to low flying airplanes. The seconds lost 2-1 with a weakened team but Grennan and Phil Dunne managed to pull out a victory in the doubles.
It was the third team this week to keep the crowds out late, under the lights in Ashbrook. Marcos Torres battled back after losing the first set 6-0 to take the second and third set. The first set was surely down to his shock of the cold weather and the fact that they weren't clay courts. He managed to overcome this and win his match. Sadly, this was the team's only victory of the night as they also lost 2-1.
The fourths, the real love of my life, lost 3-0 to a very strong Aer Lingus side. Abraham and Javier lost out in a tight doubles match. Our men's club captain, Brian Gibney lost his singles match 6-1 6-1 but he, like the rest of the team members were more worried about fulfilling their fascination of airplanes. There were many low flying ones for them to have a look at.
Thats it for this week. Remember coaching/social tennis takes place as usual. Floodlight matches take place for team members again on Monday and Tuesday. So best of luck again.
