Professor Brennan is the Michael McCormack Professor of Management and is a chartered accountant. Before joining UCD she worked as an auditor in Stokes Kennedy Crowley & Co (now KPMG). KARL COURTNEY We have learned with regret of the death of Karl Courtney, aged 20, who was a third year science student. A portrait of writer Brian Ó Nualláin (Flann OBrien/ Myles na Gopaleen) has been presented to UCD by the poet, Seamus Heaney. It was drawn by Micheál Ó Nualláin, the writers brother, in 1957 as a case study for a life-size portrait in oils. Pictured are Seamus Heaney; the President, Dr Cosgrove, and Micheál Ó Nualláin. Maribel is pictured above with the ambassador. Maribel Butler de Foley was a member of the department from 1956 to 1991 and translated many works in English into Spanish prior to her retirement. Among them were works by Irish writers George Moore, James Joyce, Sean Ó Faolain, Frank OConnor, John Millington Synge, Kate OBrien, Brian Friel, William Trevor, Colm Toibin, Patrick McCabe, John Banville and Keith Ridgeway. The presentation of the decoration was made by the Spanish ambassador, HE Don José María Sanz-Pastor, on behalf of King Juan Carlos, in the Spanish Embassy. The President, Dr Cosgrove, and his wife Emer attended the ceremony.
