UCD is playing its part in raising awareness about the euro among its staff and students with the launch of its Euro Website.

The content of the Euro Website was designed by Grainne Ahern, Euro Project Manager for UCD. It aims to provide information on the UCD Euro Project as well as general information on the currency.

The ‘Notes and Coins’ section of the website provides those ‘not in the know’ with a chance to see for themselves the euro coins, together with each country's national ‘face’ and the types of euro notes.

"We are all increasingly coming across money denominated in euros in the course of our daily lives from the euro equivalent on our payslips and bank statements to the prices of holidays on the internet," Grainne says. "However, we are still getting to grips with how to actually convert from euro to punts and vice versa. It's likely that many of us will find the downloadable multi-currency euro calculator on the Euro Website a godsend over the next year or so, particularly after the University's central systems changeover on 1 October 2001 and the introduction of the euro currency on 1 January 2002."

For anyone interested in getting a brief overview of what the changeover to the euro for Ireland involves, the site contains a summary timetable for our changeover and a section dealing with frequently asked questions. In addition, the

‘Euronews’ section of the site also provides a link to general euro news and euro news within UCD itself. There are also useful links to other euro sites as well as information on the structure and timetable of the UCD Euro Project.

The Euro Website can be accessed via the Administration section on the homepage of the main UCD website or at www.ucd.ie/~euro/
