The first Engineering Society Careers Fair was held in February in the auditorium of the new Student Centre building.

The event began with an official opening with speeches by Paula Gahan, auditor of the Engineering Society; Professor Vincent Dodd, dean of Engineering and Colm Tobin, Careers & Appointments Officer.

The Fair was organised by the Engineering Society Committee to create a forum where prospective engineering students could interact informally with a wide variety of engineering firms. Companies which took part included ARUP, Sisk, MC O’Sullivan, Institute of Engineers of Ireland, CPL, Coillte, Eircell, Ericsson, FLS, Buro Happold, Irish Cement, O’Connor Sutton Cronin, Atkins McCarthy and Lake Communications.

Each company also made a 15-minute presentation.

New Undergraduate Bursary Programme

Bovis Lend Lease, one of the world's largest project management and construction services companies, and recently established in Ireland, have agreed to extend their well-established Undergraduate Sponsorship Programme to include the Department of Chemical Engineering in UCD. Under this programme, a selected 2nd year student will receive a monthly bursary during their time at university. Salaried work experience will also be provided during summer vacations. The first recipient of this award is Mr Conor Foley. It is hoped to continue the programme into the future.
