UCD Master of Accounting students won four out of five prizes available in the recent Young Business Writers competition sponsored by chartered  accountant Coopers & Lybrand and solicitors McCann Fitzgerald. Commerce graduate and Master in Accounting student Gemma O'Regan won the top prize of £1,000 for her paper The decision by the EU to abolish duty-free salesis a triumph of bureaucracy over economics.  

In addition, three other students at the Graduate School of Business Master of Accounting programme won prizes available to third-level students in the competition. They were Maria Finnegan, Eamonn Murphy and Edward Rowney, who were all highly commended and awarded £250 each. Meanwhile, MAcc student Robert McGoey was recently awarded second place and a £600 prize in the Chartered Accountants' Student Communications  
Awards. His topic was EMU and its effects on business.
