A full-time Master of Science in Quantitative Finance
(MScQF) degree has been introduced by the Department of
Banking and Finance at the Michael Smurfit Graduate School
of Business.
The two-year programme replaces the existing one-year
MBS in Quantitative Finance that is now in its fifth year of
operation.
The curriculum aims to give students the knowledge and
skills to develop quantitative security pricing models and
trading strategies for managing portfolios of equity, fixed
income, and derivative securities, and for managing corporate
financial risk.
Career options for MScQF graduates include funds
management, investment banking, financial engineering, and
corporate treasury management.
The MScQF also provides the recommended coursework
component of the PhD in Finance at UCD, leading to careers
in academia as well as the finance industry.
The programme would suit analytically talented students
from quantitative backgrounds who wish to pursue careers in
finance while still exercising their exceptional mathematical
skills.
It is also appropriate for commerce graduates who feel that
they have the appropriate disposition and natural talent for
mathematically more rigorous training in finance. The MScQF
will admit only about 20 students each year.
