Ireland's first Ombudsman, Michael Mills, has been appointed as the first Senior Fellow in the Department of Politics.


Professor Tom Garvan, Dr Niamh Hardiman, Dr Iseult Honohan, Dr Jennifer Todd, Dr Laurence Davis, Dr Fergus D'Arcy, and Michael Mills, the first Faculty of Arts Honorary Senior Fellow.

As political correspondent for the Irish Press during the 1970s, Michael Mills earned an enviable reputation for insightful comment and shrewd judgement. He was appointed Ombudsman in 1984 and held that office for 10 years, ensuring during that period that this innovative 'defender of the people's office was securely established.

As a Fellow in the department, he is now working on contemporary Irish politics.
