Glenomena sets new standards in accommodation

Glenomena Residences are the latest addition to student accommodation at UCD Belfield. The buildings, currently under construction, are situated between the current Merville Residences and the Chaplaincy.

The apartments are particularly aimed at post-graduate students throughout the College, including The Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business at Blackrock. The unique option at Glenomena Residences is that students can opt to stay for the summer months.

Meeting the needs of the modern student has been part the mission at Glenomena Residences and embracing technology is central to this focus. Each apartment building is linked with the latest in ‘wireless’ computer networking which makes it ideal for using laptop computers, providing access to the College online services and the wider world at any time.

Every apartment consists of six bedrooms, each with ensuite facility. Bedrooms are fitted with workstations.  Each apartment contains a generously sized living area and kitchen/dining space fitted out with the highest quality materials.

The apartments are within easy access to all campus restaurants, libraries, student clubs, shops, health services, bank and post office.

There will be 24- hour campus security for the residences.

Application forms are available from 1 May 2002 from of the UCD Resident Reception Offices. Completed forms, including passport size photograph and relevant deposit , should arrive at the Resident's Office, Glenomena Student Residences, UCD, field, Dublin 4, no later than Wednesday 31 July 2002.

Successful applicants will be notified by letter week beginning 5 August 2002. Students who wish to stay for the summer term must indicate this as part of their initial application. Unsuccessful applicants will be refunded their deposit by the end of August.

" This year we will have 270 rooms available from September, " says Suzanne Shorten, Glenomena Residence manager. "There will be 550 rooms by September 2003."

Glenomena Residences were designed by architects Burke Kennedy Doyle, to a brief prepared by the Buildings Office in consultation with Tony Nichol, administrator of the Student Residences Office.
