UCD University Relations

Dominic Martella joined University College Dublin as External Communications and Media Relations Manager in 2005.

He encourages and supports academics and scientists from across the university to communicate their ideas, knowledge, research, and discoveries to mass audiences through a range of communications channels, primarily the news media.

As a result, news associated with the university has been increasingly reported in leading national and international media including:

Sky News, BBC News, Channel 4 News, Bloomberg, Forbes, Reuters, ABC News, CBS News, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, France 24, RTE News, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Huffington Post, New York Daily News, The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent, Toronto Star, Vancouver Sun, Sydney Morning Herald, Der Spiegel, Süddeutsche Zeitung, El Mundo, China Daily, The Sunday Times, The Irish Times, and The Irish Independent.

The aim is to give opinion-formers and the wider public a clear understanding of the contribution of the university to national, international, and global society.

He is also responsible for publicising major university announcements and achievements, visits by government ministers, heads of state, and high-profile public figures.

Before joining University College Dublin, Dominic Martella was a Freelance Publicist; Publicity and Promotions Officer for the National Distance Education Centre (Dublin City University); Projects Officer (Public Relations) for the Irish Secretariat of the United Nations (UN) International Year of Older Persons 1999; and Projects Officer (Public Relations) for Wicklow County Council (Ireland) with special responsibility for the 1798 Bicentennial Commemorations and Le Tour de France.

He is a member of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII), the Chartered Institute of Public Relations UK (Global Affiliate), and the European Public Relations Education and Research Association (Euprera).

He gained his BA and MA (Anthropology) from NUI Maynooth, Ireland, and his Professional Diploma in Advertising and Media Planning from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Ireland.
