Qualifications:

  • B. Sc. (Hons) Applied Biology 2:1 (1997)
  • Ph D. Plant-Microbe Interactions (2001)
  • MSc. Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Quality Assurance (2017)

Lab Based Skills:

  • Cell culture: Immortal and primary cell line culture, transfection, cell-based assays and protein expression.
  • Protein Biochemistry: protein purification and characterisation, 2D SDS PAGE Western Blotting, enzyme assays.
  • Molecular Biology: Basic PCR, gene cloning, RT-QPCR, vector construction for protein expression, protein fusion construction, sequencing, microarray construction.
  • HPLC/Mass Spectrometry:  Basic techniques.
  • Plant biology: Transformation and protein expression. Plant cell culture.

Teaching Support:

  • Responsible for cell culture facilities within Veterinary Biosciences including cell culture training, support and trouble shooting.
  • Mentoring post-graduate students.
  • Proofreading of papers emerging from research in the laboratory.
  • Teaching and set-up support for Biochemistry practical classes.
