WAAVP Conference to be held in Dublin in 2021
The 28th International Conference of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) will be held in Dublin in 2021.
As part of the 26th International Conference of the WAAVP, which took place in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month, a bidding committee travelled to present Ireland as a potential destination for the 28th WAAVP in 2021. The Dublin bid was put together by the Local Committee in partnership with Keynote PCO, and was supported by Fáilte Ireland, Meet in Ireland and Dublin Convention Bureau through the Conference Ambassador Programme. The WAAVP2021 committee includes several organisations: University College Dublin, Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine, Dublin City University, Queen's University Belfast, Trinity College Dublin and Teagasc.
Professor Grace Mulcahy from the UCD School of Veterinary Medicine is the WAAVP2021 Conference Chair: "Together with my colleagues who came together to make the bid to hold WAAVP2021 in Dublin, I am delighted to announce that our bid has been successful. This biennial conference brings together the largest number of veterinary parasitologists globally, and has a strong tradition in showcasing both basic research and innovation in the discipline. We are determined that WAAVP Dublin 2021, building on previous conferences, will present a cutting-edge scientific programme spanning parasitology relating to companion animals, farm animals, one health, wildlife and ecosystems."
The proposed Conference themes will provide an excellent opportunity for education and engagement among the international research community and with industry, proposed as Parasitologists Without Borders: Scientific collaboration across the globe to deliver One Health, sustainable livestock production, animal welfare, and control of parasitic diseases in animals, humans, and ecosystems.
The organisers expect up to 1,000 participants including academics and researchers from across the globe, within the discipline of Veterinary Parasitology. The world-class four-day programme will provide delegates an opportunity to attend multiple keynote presentations, academic paper sessions, poster and rapid-fire presentations, and exhibitions as well as unique networking events such as a fun run and many other activities.
