WHITE HORSE VETERINARY TRAVEL BURSARY

General description.

  • A bursary of about 2000 euro per annum will be awarded by open competition. It is intended to allow one or more UCD veterinary students, recent graduates and junior members of the School of Veterinary Medicine staff to obtain experience of working for a period of not less than 6 weeks in academic institutions overseas.
  • It cannot be used for study tours or attendance at international conferences.

Conditions.
  • The Bursary will be advertised on the UCD web pages,
  • Applications will be accepted from UCD veterinary students, recent UCD graduates and junior members of the UCD School of Veterinary Medicine staff.
  • Each applicant must be prepared to spend a minimum of 6 weeks working in one academic institution outside Ireland. The bursary will not be awarded for study tours or attendance at international conferences.
  • The Bursary will cover return travel costs, modest subsistence and reasonable miscellaneous receipted expenses.
  • Only applications received before the advertised closing date(s) will be accepted.
  • Applicants should give their CV, reasons for applying and estimates of the cost of travel, subsistence and miscellaneous payments. They should clearly indicate the benefits that they expect to accrue from the award. Enquiries & Applications to Jane.Irwin@ucd.ie by the 31st March 2012.
  • Except in the case of veterinary students, preference may be given to those candidates whose work abroad is likely to contribute to a publication or to familiarise them with techniques transferable to the Irish scene.
  • Applications will be considered and ranked, in accordance with the above criteria, by a Selection Committee set up by the UCD School of Veterinary medicine. The ranked selection will be sent to the donor for approval, modification after consultation with the Committee or rejection in part or in full. The decision of the donors will be final. Funds unused in one year will be divided equally between the remaining years of the five year period.
  • Successful candidates on return to Ireland will be required to furnish a written report of their travels and the experience gained. Copies of the report should be sent to the Chairman of the Selection Committee and to the facilitator via the UCD Development Officer.
  • Successful candidates will be paid two thirds of the award on proof of purchase of their return travel tickets. The remaining one third will be paid on submission of the above report, receipts for travel expenses, subsistence and miscellaneous receipted expenses.
