World Horse Welfare Undergraduate Bursary
Eithne MacCarthy, a fourth year student of Veterinary Medicine at University College Dublin, has just been awarded a World Horse Welfare Undergraduate Bursary to undertake research in the area of equine welfare in Ireland over the summer 2011.
The World Horse Welfare Student Bursary scheme is highly competitive and is aimed at students in their veterinary clinical training years.
Applicants are required to submit a detailed proposal of their work demonstrating strong interest in horse welfare.
This is the third consecutive year that a UCD veterinary student has been awarded this prestigious bursary. Eithne plans to investigate Streptococcus equi var. equi (Strangles) infection in semi regulated and regulated horse populations in Ireland.
Dr Vivienne Duggan, lecturer and clinical specialist in equine internal medicine, will supervise her work.
