Dr Peñalba is an Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow working on the effects of Nazi propaganda on Spain during World War II. She obtained her PhD from the University of Navarra. Her first monograph, Falange Española: historia de un fracaso (1933-1945), focused on the history of Franco’s party and was published by University of Navarra Press in 2009. In 2012 she obtained government for a study on the integration of Carlism into the structure of Franco’s political movement. The results of this funded project were recently published as a monograph entitled Entre la boina roja y la camisa azul. La integración del carlismo en Falange Española Tradicionalista y de las JONS (1936-1942). Between 2011 and 2014 Dr Peñalba has been a lecturer at the International University of La Rioja.

Her current research aims to enhance our understanding of the effects of Nazi propaganda on Spain’s foreign and domestic policy during World War II. More broadly she is interested in the history of authoritarian and fascist regimes, the analysis of their propaganda and its relation to policy-making.
