Welcome to the UCD School of Geological Sciences

The UCD School of Geological Sciences is the largest Geoscience School in Ireland offering both undergraduate and graduate studies. The School has an internationally recognised reputation for excellence in teaching and research in the areas of fault analysis, geochronology, geophysics, marine and petroleum geology, palaeobiology, palaeoclimatology and petrology and isotope geochemistry. Our research funding typically exceeds €2 million per year, with research projects currently supported by more than 13 international petroleum companies. We have a vibrant international community comprising of researchers from over 15 countries. Our degree programmes reflect the needs of society and industry producing graduates who are nationally and internationally highly regarded by prospective employers and other universities. Along with our BSc in Geology we offer PhD and MSc by research. Our MSc in Petroleum Geoscience, a 1 year taught masters degree, is a collaborative initiative with Tullow Oil PLC and the only one of its kind in Ireland. Graduates from our school have gone on to work in a range of highly recognised companies including Tullow Oil, BP, Chevron, Geological Survey of Ireland and SLR.

Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences (iCRAG) (15/01/2015)

On October 20th the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, and Minister for Skills, Research and Innovation Damien English have announced Government and industry funding of €245 million for the establishment of five new world-class SFI Research Centres in Ireland.
