The Simon Community Great Wall Walk

GreatWall1.jpg

A talk by Aisling O'Donoghue.

Aisling heads the fund raising team for Simon in Dublin, and last year their destination was China's Great Wall. Not the bits with tourist buses and cable cars, but parts that only the adventurous ever get to see. Tonight, in the comfort of the Engineer's Club, we can imagine ourselves there as Aisling shares with us the experiences of the group.

Living and Working in China

Beijing.jpg

A talk by Miriam Donohoe

What is it like to take on a new job that means moving with husband and children thousands of miles from home in Dublin? Miriam Donohoe of the Irish Times did just that, subsequently making a great impression on Times readers with her sensitive reports on Chinese life and culture. Tonight she tells us about that stay in China.

Wednesday March 12th

Botanising on the Yangtze; the Glasnevin Central China Expedition

Peony.jpg

A talk by Seamus O'Brien

In January 2002 we heard Seamus on the subject of plant investigation in Yunnan and Hubei. Last summer, with a select group of botanists, he returned to China, this time to collect from and examine a Yangtze area soon to be flooded, and he tells us about this trip tonight. This is certain to be a fascinating evening, as no one who heard his previous talk (and saw the beautiful slides) will need to be told.

(You may like to know that Seamus will also be talking about the expedition in the lecture theatre of the Botanic Gardens on Thursday 6th February at 3.00 pm)
