Welcome to General English
Our year-round General English Course focuses on speaking, listening, reading and writing with authentic materials and tasks, as well as taking a context-based approach to grammar and vocabulary. Throughout the course, students will also develop the ability to express critical thinking in English and take English language exams. Students are introduced to global topics and learner collaboration is encouraged, through projects and discussion.

Homestay Accommodation is available as part of the General English course. Students are placed in single rooms in homes of familaies within 10km radius of the university along good transport routes. Weekly cost includes 7 nights accommodation and board as well as a light laundry. Accommodation booking includes the Sunday before the course start date to the Saturday after the end date.

Non-EU students must obtain private health insurance. You can purchase insurance in your home country( Health Insurance policy must be in English) , however you will need to ensure that it is valid in Ireland and in any other countries you plan to travel to. There are different levels of private health insurance available. Students are advised to read their policy documents carefully. INIS requires that, if you have health insurance from your own country it must cover you up to €25,000 for in-hospital treatment.Please see here for more details.
Basic medical expenses insurance is available from Guard.me. This insurance policy will satisfy the visa/immigration requirement for private health insurance and can be obtained before students arrive in Ireland. For more information on this insurance please visit the guard.me website https://
EU/EEA nationals do not require a visa to study in Ireland. Other applicants should contact the Irish embassy responsible for their country, or the Irish National Immigration Service (see website: http://www.inis.gov.ie/). Cancellation fees may apply, should an applicant’s visa be refused. Non EU/EEA students who intend to take our 25 week programme are advised to contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Cancellation charges are applicable to all prospective participants on ALC programmes. Regulations concerning cancellation charges will be supplied to intending students, on request. Accommodation and tuition fees are not refundable if a participant arrives late, or wishes to leave a course early
Places on our General English course can be booked by filling in the form below. Please note that places are limited and so early booking is advised.
Note: A registration fee of €75(without accommodation) / €135 (with accommodation) which is non-refundable must be paid when submitting your online application to confirm your booking. Full payment is then due six weeks before the start of a course.
