Creative Arts Summer School

University College Dublin were delighted to welcome participants for the second annual Creative Arts Summer School. Led by NCAD, the summer school returned to Dublin this week running across the five college campuses from Monday, 24th June to Friday, 26th June.

Running across the five PATH partner colleges, University College Dublin, National College of Art and Design, Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Marino Institute of Education and Trinity College Dublin the initiative seeks to increase diversity to higher education in the creative arts.

Participants had the opportunity to explore their creative interests, meet other like-minded people and consider the range of career paths in the creative arts. Successful applicants spent one day in each of the five partner colleges and had an opportunity to participate in workshops ranging from virtual reality, experimental archaeology and textile and fashion design to drama, writing and illustration, stage and screen production, architecture and costume for stage and screen, portfolio preparation, and many more.

Jacinta Owens from (opens in a new window)UCD Innovation Academy kickstarted the UCD day, Wednesday June 26th with a welcome address which set the groups creative thinking alight. Workshops for this day were kindly facilitated by Fiona McDonald, UCD Architecture, Niamh Kelly, UCD Experimental Archaeology and Rosemarie Devereux, UCD Art History and Cultural Policy.

Operated through the Access Services in the participating colleges, the summer school gave priority to applicants who met one or more of the following criteria:
