Future You Summer School 2019

During the week of June 10th 2019, UCD Access & Lifelong Learning (ALL) hosted it’s 8th residential summer school. Fifty-six 5th year students from our partner secondary schools and community organisations participated in the week’s activities.

The aim of the summer school is to provide an opportunity for prospective students, from communities with lower progression rates to third level education, to experience what its like to be a college student at UCD for the week.

Throughout the week students were broken into 5 smaller groups and participated in subject-specific project groups each morning (Health Science, Business, History, Computer Science & Engineering). They also engaged in Society events, sports, art and several workshops to expose them to supports they can access on campus (Assistive Technology, Occupational Therapy, Career Guidance).

At the end of the week students shared what they had learned in their subject groups with the rest of their peers. The pride in their work and their enthusiasm to continue learning was evident. We wish them all the best as they enter their 6th year and hope to welcome them back onto campus as UCD students for the 2020 Academic Year.

The Future You Summer School is part of our mentorship programming, which we currently facilitate with 5th and 6th year students in South County Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown. If you are interested in learning more about this, please contact us at (opens in a new window)all@ucd.ie.
