Building Capacity for the Cultural Industries: Towards a Shared-Island Approach

Funding: Irish Research Council (IRC) through the New Foundations, Shared Island Initiative Strand, supported by the Shared Island Unit.

This project is led by (opens in a new window)Dr Victoria Durrer, UCD School of Art History and Cultural Policy, working in collaboration with Queen's University Belfast, Arts Council Northern Ireland, Irish Theatre Institute, Theatre and Dance NI and Cavan County Council Arts Office.

Building Capacity for the Cultural Industries: Towards a Shared-Island Approach responds to the precarity of the Irish cultural industries recently underlined by Brexit and the global pandemic through championing and strengthening the shared island ecology of the professional performing arts industry. Collaborating to foster shared approaches to recovery and regional development, industry associated researchers, professionals, and policymakers will meet to share and critically discuss data regarding existing shared island operations and learn from other sectors currently engaging in all-island practices (e.g. museums, education, tourism). Industry-specific actions for capacity building, dissemination of recommendations to policymakers, and links with international partners to scope future collaboration for learning will be established.
