Melanocyte behavior in chronic plaque psoriasis: modeling of melanocyte proliferation and apoptosis during disease progression and remission for insights into the control of melanoma

Project

Project Title: Melanocyte behavior in chronic plaque psoriasis: modeling of melanocyte proliferation and apoptosis during disease progression and remission for insights into the control of melanoma

Thematic Area: Inflammatory Skin Diseases

Focus of Research: Psoriasis

Overview:The Project aims to assess how  the massive keratinocyte hyperplasia in plaque psoriasis affects proliferation in typically proliferation-resistant melanocytes, and how the induction of keratinocyte apoptosis in regressing lesions impacts on expanded melanocyte numbers to restore epidermal-melanin unit balance.

Funded by:  UCD Start-Up funds.

PI: Prof Desmond J Tobin

Other Group/team members: Ms. Sarah Lussoso, Prof Brian Kirby.

Project Duration: January 2020- January 2024
