Professional Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture (Level 8, Pathway to M.A.)
Programme Overview
This course is designed to meet the growing demands of Chinese teaching and learning in schools in Ireland. For teachers who have already mastered the pedagogy in Irish schools but do not have sufficient knowledge of Chinese language and culture, this course will provide them with the opportunity to develop and enhance their competence in teaching Chinese language and culture in schools. (e.g. Junior Cycle Short Course in Chinese Language and Culture and/or Transition Year Chinese Culture and Language Studies). Any teachers who are qualified to teach in schools in Ireland, or who are interested in working in a relevant area and have passed the entry examination for this course held by Irish Institute for Chinese Studies at UCD are eligible to apply for this course.
Please note: Qualification requirements for teaching Leaving Certificate Mandarin Chinese will be determined by the Teaching Council of Ireland. Please see http://www.teachingcouncil.ie for more information.

Qualification Awarded
For the students who have successfully completed the programme, an award GPA is calculated and a professional diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture in School is awarded.

Entry requirements
This programme is designed for those who hold a teaching qualification for teaching in secondary schools or who are interested in working in a relevant area and have passed the entry examination which is equivalent to Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) level 2 or above and grasp 300 Chinese characters (click below to see details). All applicants who meet these criteria are eligible for consideration for an offer.

Scholarships
Students can apply for the scholarship provided by the Chinese International Education Foundation which will partially cover your tuition fees.

This one-year part time course comprises three modules:
- Teaching Chinese Language and Culture I (semester 1)
- Teaching Chinese Language and Culture II (semester 2)
- Chinese Teaching Methodology and Practice I (semester 3)
