2012 saw the record smashed again for the number of UCD Civil Engineering PhD graduates from UCD. There were a total of eight new doctors in the School this year. Three of the new graduates were in Bridge Engineering. Dr Jason Dowling is already working as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of British Colombia in Canada and Dr Patrick McGetrick is an Assistant Professor in the University of Kyoto in Japan. Dr David Hester is working in Dublin with O’Connor Sutton Cronin, Consulting Engineers and is continuing his research on a part-time basis.

Dr Abdolrahim Taheri did his research in vehicle/pavement and vehicle/rail dynamic interaction. He returned to Iran earlier this year and is Head of Research in an oil company. Salam Al Sabah did his research in Finite Element modelling part-time and works with Arup Consulting Engineers. Dr Philip Hemmingway did his research in geothermal energy harvesting and has moved to a lecturing position in Biosystems Engineering in UCD.

Two of the PhD graduates specialised in Water Resources. Dr Philip Conway has joined a specialist consulting engineering firm in Sydney. Finally Dr Fiachra O’Loughlin is doing post-doctoral research at the University of Bristol.

We wish them all the best of luck in their post-doctoral careers!
