The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect on 25 May 2018 and replaces the Irish Data Protection Acts, 1988 and 2003.
GDPR is a legal framework that sets guidelines for the collection and processing of personal information of individuals within the European Union (EU). GDPR emphasises transparency, security and accountability by data controllers and processors, while at the same time standardising and strengthening the right of European citizens to data privacy.
