How your Architecture Degree Award and GPA is calculated:
The overall award to each graduate of a Degree Programme is calculated using the GPA (Grade Point Average) system. Your performance across the range of modules you take will be calculated using this system, which is an average of grade-points awarded for each module weighted, according to the credit value of the modules for which the grades were approved – modules will count for 5, 10 or 15 credits. Each stage has 60 credits and you will receive a GPA at the end of each stage.
How your undergraduate Degree Award is calculated will depend on the point at which you choose to exit your UCD programme.
- If you opt to exit after Stage 3 with a BSc Architectural Science Degree then the calculation of honours for will be based on the final stage of the programme where the grade points are weighted so that the final stage modules contribute 100% to the degree GPA.
- If you opt to exit after Stage 4 with a Bachelor of Architectural Science Degree* then the calculation of honours will be based on the final and penultimate stages of the programme where the grade points are weighted so that the final and penultimate stage modules each contribute 50% to the degree GPA.
*It is important to note that students progressing to the final year of the Master of Architecture Degree will not be exiting with a 4-Year Degree, their modules from Stage 4 are mapped to their Master of Architecture Degree record and they are retrospectively awarded a 3-Year BSc Architectural Science Degree as it’s not possible to count modules towards more than one Degree award.
