Conference Social Events

Welcome Ceilidh

20:30 Tuesday 14th July

A ceilidh is a social event of folk music, singing and dancing.

We will hold a welcome ceilidh on the first night of the conference. The ceilidh will start at around 20:30 and will be held in the Cultúrlann na hÉireann (see map below). The venue is an Irish music and culture centre in Monkstown, Dublin which is part of Comhaltas, the national association for promoting Irish traditional music.

Getting to the ceilidh

We will arrange guides to help people find their way to the event (details will be circulated nearer the time). The address of the centre is 32 Belgrave Square, Monkstown, Dublin.

Fieldtrip

Thursday 16th July

The fieldtrip will take place on Thursday, 16th July. The day will visit the Wicklow Mountains, south of Dublin.

In the morning we will visit some of the upland peatland sites in the Wicklow Mountains. Some of these sites have been affected by recent peatland fires, others are relatively intact. We will present the ecology of these peatlands, the effects of the fires in these habitats and the management of these sites.

In the afternoon we will visit Glendalough.
