Back to school with Culture & Engagement

As the start of the academic years draws near we have pulled together some activities and opportunities you might like to consider.

1. Healthy UCD Indoor Bootcamp (24 Sept – 7 December)

Building on the success of the summer bootcamp delivered by UCD Sport & Fitness we have teamed up again to offer an Indoor Bootcamp. This fun 40 minute programme is aimed at all levels of fitness and only costs €20 for 11 weeks. Come along at lunchtimes Monday, Wednesday and Friday to meet colleagues and get active.

Class starts at 13:10 in Hall A of the Sports Centre.

2. Commuter Challenge - #RebootYourCommute

Reboot your commute

For our step challenge this autumn we have taken a slightly different approach and linked up with UCD’s Smarter Travel Group and the National Transport Authority to ‘Reboot your commute’. This national challenge runs from 1 October to 11 November and aims to encourage you to choose healthier and smarter modes of transport  by walking, running, cycling, taking public transport or carpooling for your daily commute.

 How do you get involved?

Simply form a team of 3 to 6 people and nominate a Team Captain. The Captain then registers the team on the NTA’s active travel logger. Team members log their activity weekly to be in with a chance to win weekly prizes. Find out more on the (opens in a new window)National Transport Authority site.

3. Thinking of Volunteering?

UCD’s new Employee Volunteering Policy has now come into effect. The policy sets in place a mechanism where paid work time can be allocated to participate in voluntary activities, subject to line manager approval, operational requirements and alignment with University values.  For more information including FAQs visit our website.

4. Discounted Staff Rates on Sports Facility Hire

You can now use UCD Sport’s new online booking system to hire 5-a-side pitches, squash courts, tennis courts and the racquetball/handball courts and avail of a staff discount rate.

Explore the full range of UCD Sport facilities on the UCD Sport site.

5. Interested in Target Shooting?

A new staff/student club is being formed based in Belfield’s Garda-authorised range (air rifle and air pistol disciplines). Target shooting is one of a small number of sports that is open to almost anyone irrespective of disabilities, age, gender and fitness. To register interest and for further information, please contact (opens in a new window)alan.baird@ucd.ie.
