Culture & Engagement have again teamed up again with Healthy UCD, UCD Sports & Fitness and Weight Watchers to bring you a programme of activities as we step into Autumn.

Back for 2019, the original UCD Step Challenge returns! The Challenge is a free programme aimed at encouraging employees to build exercise into their daily routine. Record your steps from walking or running and compete against other teams from around UCD. Help us build on the success of the last Challenge which had almost 200 participants who clocked up a massive 80 million steps!

  • Challenge runs from 30 September to 10 November 2019
  • Teams of up to 6 employees and/or postgraduates will compete against colleagues from across UCD for glory...and prizes!
  • No charge for this event

September - Boot camp header

Healthy UCD Boot Camp

Running every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at lunchtimes, these classes for all levels of fitness will incorporate arms/abs and HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workouts and a variety of other fitness exercises that will burn fat, improve fitness and energy levels and shape your body!

  • Course starts: Monday, 30 September 2019

  • Cost: €25/person for the 10 weeks

Classes meet at 1.10pm at the UCD Sports Centre and classes will take place on the grass area opposite or in the sports hall, depending on the weather. Participants will need to bring water, a towel and the motivation to have fun and get fit!

Autumn - Yoga header

Healthy UCD - Yoga

Two classes will run  on Wednesday & Thursday for 10 weeks. Places are limited to 35 per class so sign up today.

September - Hurling header

Social Hurling

A new take on lunchtime fitness! Dust off your hurl, brush up on your skills and get active with social hurling. Take-up of our Social Hurling pilot this summer greatly exceeded expectations so the programme will return for an extended run during Term 1.

No hurling / camogie experience necessary and we had plenty of first-timers hurlers on our last programme! The sessions will involve a warm-up and some skills-based games with the aim of encouraging participation, aerobic fitness and having a bit of craic.

Employees new to hurling will get additional coaching to bring them up to speed. To ensure we can offer the broadest range of activities, participants will need to wear a helmet.

  • Day: Tuesdays at 13:10
  • Venue: Large all-weather pitch beside the sports centre
  • Cost: €25 per person (to cover coaching costs) for the term

Autumn - Pilates header

Healthy UCD - Pilates

New for 2019! Following requests and suggestions, we're delighted to introduce our new Healthy UCD Pilates programme. Two classes will run  on Tuesday & Thursday for 10 weeks. Places are limited to 40 per class so sign up today.

September - Weight header

Weight Watchers

Following the success of this summer's Weight Watchers pilot, we aim to continue to offer access to an employee-only Weight Watchers programme.

This is an employee-only offering and requires a minimum of 15 participants to proceed. Below you can register your interest. Once the minimum level has been reached the course will proceed and payments can be made. It is expected that the programme will commence at 1pm on Wednesday, 2nd of October 2019 in room AA2, Ardmore Annex.

Tai Chi Club Classes

The UCD Staff and Postgraduate Tai Chi Club are running Tuesday evening and Wednesday lunchtime classes. These are available to all staff and postgraduate students; no previous knowledge is needed to join in and participate at any level of fitness, just wear comfortable clothing and bring tennis shoes or similar runners.

Social & Awards Event

New for 2019! join other programme participants to mark the end of our 2019 events.  This community-building event also aims to recognise and reward those who participated in the autumn's engagement activites.
