HEA Online Review of Gender Equality in Irish Higher Education

Advancing gender equality is a fundamental element of the UCD Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and the achievement of the UCD Rising to the Future strategy. We are actively working to create an inclusive environment where people of all genders feel respected and supported and can realise their full potential. We are implementing good practice in gender equality across many areas such as equitable recruitment, retention and progression of students and employees and this is reflected in the wide range of actions in our Gender Equality Action Plan 2020 – 2024 as part of the Athena SWAN institutional bronze award achieved by UCD in 2020. These actions are implemented in line with the first HEA National Review of Gender Equality in Irish Higher Education Institutions.

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) is undertaking a Second National Review of Gender Equality in Irish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). This Review will assess the progress made in recent years and make recommendations to ensure the continued advancement of gender equality in the higher education sector. By taking part in this consultation, you are helping the HEA to identify areas for improvement, and ways to make those improvements.

The HEA would welcome your participation in this consultation to gain insight into your view of gender equality in Irish higher education (HE). The consultation will close at 11:59pm Wednesday 13th April 2022 and takes on average 10 minutes to complete.

The online consultation can be accessed here.

The consultation results will be collated to provide an overall picture of gender equality across the Irish HE sector, and the progress made since the first National Review in 2016. The Expert group will consider the findings as part of their review of gender equality in Irish HEIs.

Participation in this consultation is voluntary and anonymous - no personally identifying information is requested.

The HEA is also accepting written submissions to the Expert Group. Submissions may be made to edi@hea.ie before 5pm on Friday 22nd April, using the format in the template available here
