Labour market reform


Philip O'Connell

  • Appointed to the newly formed Labour Market Council by Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton. The Council will advise the Minister on implementation of the Pathways strategy, monitor progress and put forward additional proposals to complement the reforms to labour market policy already underway in the Department of Social Protection
  • Made a presentation to the DSP Stakeholder Forum, convened by The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton TD, on the recently published review of employment supports by the Department of Social Protection, Feb 18, 2013

Economic Strategy


Diane Payne

  • ICT Rapporteur: Medium Term Economic Strategy (MTES) Consultative Forum, Dublin Castle, 24 September 2013
  • Participated in high-level research workshop led by EY for Forfás and the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN) on Assessing the demand for Big Data / Data Analytics Skills in Ireland 2013 –2020
  • This research work is a key action point in the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs and is supported by IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland. The focus of the Study is on forecasting the demand for Big Data/Data Analytics roles across the economy, including their qualifications, skill sets and competences requirements. The aim of the study is to ensure Ireland builds up a sufficient data analytics talent pool in order to take advantage of the potential business and employment opportunities in this area.
  • Following the completion of this research, the following report was published in November 2013 by Forfás / EGFSN Study "Addressing the Demand for High-Level ICT Skills across all Sectors of the Economy in Ireland"

Education and Labour Market

Gillian Golden

  • appointed the Irish National Expert for the OECD Labour Market and Social Outcomes of Education Network and Chair of the working group responsible for producing indicators on social outcomes of education for the annual OECD Education at a Glance publication.
  • Gillian Golden is a CSCS PhD fellow (part-time) at the Dynamics Lab in the UCD Geary Institute and is a statistician working at the Department of Education and Skills. She is also registered for her CSCS PhD programme at the UCD School of Sociology.
