Congratulations to our colleague, Assoc. Prof. Dieter F. Kogler, on being awarded a European Research Council Starting Grant.
The grant, valued at €1.5 million, is only one of two nationally awarded ERC grants in this round of the competition with the objective to support early-career talent to develop their ambitious high-risk, high-gain research projects at the frontier of science. Assoc Prof Kogler’s project is entitled ‘Technology Evolution in Regional Economies’ (TechEvo) and will investigate how specific regional knowledge capabilities influence the evolution of local technology trajectories, and thus potential economic prosperity by providing a wealth of indicators, models and tools to firms and policy makers.

ERC TechEvo Project - Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Level Position

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and talented individuals for a 30-month post–doctorate research position as a part of a European Research Council funded project – TechEvo (Technology Evolution in Regional Economies). The position is available from 1 April 2017 in the area of quantitative research on evolutionary trajectories and long-term patterns of invention, technological change, and economic growth, both theoretical and empirical.

Salary: PD1- €33,975 - €41,181 per annum; PD2- €38,155 - €46,255 per annum
This position may be appointed at either UCD Post Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 depending on the relevant qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

ERC TechEvo Project – 3 PhD Positions (fully-funded, 4-years)

The 3 fully funded 4-year PhD positions are part of the European Research Council (ERC) project “Technology Evolution in Regional Economies” (TechEvo), the project aims to investigate how specific regional knowledge capabilities influence the evolution of local technology trajectories and thus shape geographies of economic prosperity. Focusing on the development of scientific, technical and commercial knowledge, and set in an evolutionary framework, the doctoral research projects will explore how innovative individuals and entities are embedded in social and cognitive local and non-local networks and provide important insights regarding place-specific characteristics and historical context, and territorial and sectoral policy initiatives in order to determine how regional technology pathways can be actively directed.
