Creating a sustainable, vibrant Dublin of the future!

Wednesday, 12 April, 2017

Imagine Dublin as a playground, now take away the fences. Imagine Dublin as A Playful City where small interventions act as ‘urban acupuncture’ awakening people’s senses and improving the liveability, quality of life and inter-generational spaces in our capital city.

UCD School of Geography and our MSc Urban Environment students are proud to be a partner of A Playful City, a creative project exploring and responding to the need for a more playful, child friendly, and inclusive Dublin. The project is coordinated by Connect the Dots ((opens in a new window)http://www.connectthedots.ie) and Upon A Tree ((opens in a new window)http://www.uponatree.ie) . We believe in a city that is shaped to fit the people who live in it - that engages people of all ages and abilities. Other partners include: Leave No Trace Ireland, ReCreate, UNICEF and the Early Learning Initiative. The project is proudly funded by a number of sponsors including UCD in the Community.

A Playful City was launched on Thursday March 30th with a lively charrette (workshop) in the beautiful new Tara Building, attended by over 90 participants from civil society, third level, policymakers and ordinary urban dwellers. MSc Urban Environment students developed the inspirational posters to spur discussion and assisted with both the set-up and running of the event on the night.
