Professor Anne Buttimer’s papers moved to UCD School of Geography

One of the most prestigious international and transnational figures of humanistic and critical geographers in the last fifty years and the co-founder of the IGU Commission on the History of Geography

Professor Anne Buttimer (1938-2017) has bequeathed her library and archives to the UCD School of Geography. Partially already held at the School and partially recently removed from Professor Buttimer’s house, this exceptional collection of more than 200 boxes and cabinets is now reunited at the School. In the next few years, these invaluable materials will be the focus of both archival and scholarly work to render them available for the international community of scholars and the wider public. The research team entrusted with this transnational and multilingual collection (comprising UCD Cultural and Historical Geographers Dr. Arlene Crampsie and Dr. Federico Ferretti), is committed to launching research projects on these important materials to foster Professor Buttimer’s intellectual legacy in international geographical scholarship.
