Redrawing Dublin and The School of Geography organised a one day conference on 'Mapping Beauty' that focussed on Dublin city centre's environment, specifically the extent of dereliction, air pollution and the distribution of trees as an indicator of urban environmental quality. The opening to the conference featured a short movie on Dublin that is based on the famous opening scene in the movie Manhattan
As part of the conference a computer app was shown that allows users to examine the distribution of trees across the electoral districts in the city centre and make changes by adding or subtracting trees (http://streettree.ie/). The data used in the app was generated within the School of Geography and shows how geographical information can be used by modern technology to study issues associated with environmental justice and urban quality.
