The research approach is directed at providing the evidence base for utilizing different landscape elements for mitigation purposes through a better understanding of how these can be configured to minimize or offset GHG emissions and enhance carbon sequestration. This will be supported by the development of on-farm sensors providing real time information on GHG budgets. Focus will be on some of the typical farmed landscape found throughout the EU, with a particular emphasis on those associated with organic soils. The capacity for forest soils to offset GHG emissions will also be investigated. The results will be incorporated into models for on-farm assessments of the economic costs and mitigation potential of different land use combinations.
