When & how to engage with the Library as a graduate research student?

UCD Library is the perfect place to start your research and study. There is an extensive research collection, including thousands of high impact journals to support all disciplines.  There are over 3,000 quiet study places in the Library - including  individual study rooms, group study rooms, a dedicated Postgraduate Research Centre and social learning hubs.

  • Your Liaison Librarian, who works in your subject area, and the staff in the Library Research Team provide valuable support and assistance as you undertake your research
  • You can use any of the five libraries (James Joyce Library, Health Sciences Library, Veterinary Medicine Library, Richview Library and UCD Library, Blackrock)
  • Entry to the libraries is gained using your student card, also called your UCARD.
  • Becoming familiar with the library early on can be a key to success. Explore subjects and places in the Library with our interactive floor plans.

Skills and Training

A range of specialised training sessions are offered, such as: literature searching, using social media for research, mapping, managing your data, using metrics on your CV, using technologies in the humanities to facilitate research insights and using reference management software tools to help you manage your references.
