Newspaper and Periodical History Forum of Ireland

Eighth Annual Conference 'Reporting Revolutions: What the papers said'

Venue: UCD Humanities Institute

Date:13 & 14 November 2015

On the occasion of the launch of the 2013 Annual Report of the Press Council of Ireland and the Office of the Ombudsman on 29 May 2014, the Taoiseach Enda Kenny said ‘Indeed the outcome
of the War of Independence was in no small measure influenced by the National and International Press –something we should consider commemorating as we acknowledge the events of that
turbulent period.’

Reporting of national and international events forms a significant part of the history of revolution in Ireland and the impact of international revolution on Ireland. This conference will provide a
forum to review the role of media in examining the effect of revolution on society, economy, culture, and politics.
