Roger Doyle

“Visit and Concert in Beijing, March 2012”

by Roger Doyle and Brian Lally

We regret that, due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr Liming Wang is unable to give his advertised talk about the Dublin Confucius Institute. However, in a change arranged at very short notice, we are fortunate indeed to have the opportunity to host Irish award-winning writer and filmmaker Brian Lally and multi-award winning composer and pianist Roger Doyle.

Brian is currently making a documentary about the work of Roger Doyle which includes footage from his recent trip to China and is filming a series of forthcoming concerts of Roger around the world.

Roger, who has worked extensively in theatre, film and dance, and in particular with the music-theatre company Operating Theatre, will be telling us of his visit to Beijing where he performed at the Beijing Conservatory.

You can learn more of Roger and hear his work by viewing: http://www.soundcloud.com/roger-doyle and http://www.rogerdoyle.com/discog.php

SUMMER OUTING

SUMMER OUTING 2012

This year's outing is a visit to Kilmacurragh Arboretum to see the New Rhododendron Planting.
Following the recommendation of Seamus O’Brien (when he was giving us his talk "In The Footsteps of Augustine Henry") to visit the Rhododendrons at Kilmacurragh, we are going again to this beautiful arboretum, with its magnificent collection of trees from many countries, including China.

Kilmacurragh arboretum, now managed by the National Botanic Gardens, is at Kilbride, Co. Wicklow. We will meet in the Car Park at 11.30am, to be shown round by Seamus himself.

There is no charge for the tour. As there is no restaurant at the arboretum, we will adjourn to a local pub or the Avoca Restaurant in Ashford which serves a very good variety of food from a snack to a full meal.
If you would like to come on this outing, and we hope you will, it would be helpful if you would inform the Hon. Sec. Nora McDowell at 67, Cowper Rd., Dublin 6, phone 01 4971505, or Email
irishchineseculturalsociety@hotmail.com .

More information, directions on how to get there, and a map link, can be found at

This AGM, the 37th of the ICCS, gives the membership a say in the running of our society, and an opportunity to become involved in its committee through nomination and election. All members should have received full details by post, and are urged to attend.

This year the meeting will be followed by a selection of interesting DVDs on China.
