Survey of Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) Anonymised Microdata File – Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  On scanning through the variables available, I could not find the key variables of interest to me including those that capture investment in financial assets (such shares, stocks, bonds etc) and credit unions activity (membership and investment). The questions that seem to capture these variables appear in the questionnaire and not in the datasets. Are these variables available from the primary data?

A: The dataset that we make available to ISSDA is a subset of the full set of variables available from the SILC. If a person wants access to variables that are not available on the ISSDA file, they have the option to apply directly to the CSO for access to an RMF (Research Microdata File).

The procedure for making an application is available here http://www.cso.ie/en/aboutus/dissemination/accesstomicrodatarulespoliciesandprocedures/applicationprocedure/.
